Local MPs visit Dorset Studio School By Keila A (student reporter)

Three Members of Parliament visited Dorset Studio School on the Kingston Maurward Campus in Dorchester last week, a school that specialises in environmental sciences. Students typically join if they are considering careers in land or environment, agriculture or roles related to the natural world. Edward Morello (West Dorset Liberal Democrat), Vikki Slade (Mid Dorset and North Poole Liberal Democrat) and Lloyd Hatton (South Dorset Labour), were welcomed by the students and staff who championed the unique curriculum offered by the school. However, this visit was not only to view the site. Linked to UK Parliament week this week, it was also to appreciate the growth of the school and how far it has come in its ten-year history. During the tour, student tour guides gave details to the politicians of how the school could continue to develop if promised facilities were improved. Space is limited, with the school currently operating on a split site. “It's a fantastic institution that is disadvantaged due to the lack of facilities,” voiced Edward Morello. After the tour, staff expressed the importance of achieving a new build to further enhance the school and take advantage of the 750-acre campus at Kingston Maurward. Vikki Slade said, “It's been inspiring to see the love of learning and passion of students as well as staff.” Chair of Governors, Andy Daw said, “During its short history the school has continued to go from strength to strength. A new building will enable us to take the important next steps towards providing a world class education for our students. We are very grateful for the support of Members of Parliament from across Dorset.”
