A Year 11 student has a passion for animals, particularly dogs.
In addition to looking after her own pet dogs, she helps out at her auntie’s dog grooming business during the school holidays and weekends.
During year 10 at the Dorset Studio School, she was given the opportunity to gain specialist work experience at Kingston Maurward’s (school sponsor organisation), dog grooming salon and kennels.
This greatly developed her practical skills, technical knowledge and self-confidence, allowing her to gain a year 11 work placement at a local business – Casterbridge kennels.
There she was able to demonstrate constantly high standards of animal husbandry and further enhance her employability skills.
Mrs Holland (employer), was suitably impressed with her practical competence positive attitude to work, commenting that, she is reliable, enthusiastic and interested in her work.
So much so, Mrs Holland has agreed to set-up a grooming enterprise at Casterbridge Kennels for her to run.
She will provide the work placement and support needed to complete her animal care Apprenticeship programme and fund her training for her Professional Grooming qualification at KMC.
