Students took part in a 22 day challenge to Kenya with the Dorset Expeditionary Society. The aim was to develop Young Leaders. The challenge was to live in the local community and work on important development projects. Students had to buy food locally and cook their own meals. In teams African peers gave an insight into the Kenyan culture and the challenges faced by young people in a developing country. Their ability to work effectively in planning and executing practical projects was proven. High altitude trekking in Mt Kenya National Park presented another challenge.
The community Projects included new ward facilities in the Baragu Hospital. Repairing and building of new classrooms. They got to help with teaching in Primary and Secondary schools, including the Donna Kelly SEN unit in Kiriani School. Students visited homes to orphans and needy children.
A fun experience was the Rafting in the Tana river.
All students thoroughly enjoyed this amazing challenge/experience.
